History

Milton's 150th Anniversary 1860-2010 Events all year.
Milton was founded in 1860 as a private township and rural settlement. Initially known as 'The Settlement', local farm produce was shipped to Sydney from Ulladulla harbour. Milton prospered from 1866 and schools, homesteads and churches were built.
Significant historic homes include Claydon Park, the home of Sarah Claydon, the district's very own Florence Nightingale; the Wesleyan Methodist Manse; the old Thomson's bakery and Legacy House.
Historic buildings combine the town's heritage nature with a contemporary lifestyle. Stroll around the town to see the Milton Courthouse (1877) the Milton Theatre (1927) the Library (originally the Town Hall c1871) and the Post Office (1880). Continue down Wason Street and see workers' cottages built 1870-80s and the former Wesleyan Stone Church (1883).
